finestra genealogy - nicknames.
Ciao, un abbraccio

Hi!
This is Julie Haas, and my mother Josephine (Teti) Haas from Denver, Colorado.   Our cousin told us about your web page and we were checking it out.   Josephine's mother, Louisa (DiPaolo) Teti   and   her father Dominico Teti immigrated from Torricella in the early 1900's.

It's a fabulous web page!   (And thanks for making English translations) We'll be checking it out often in the future!

Hi!
My name is Roseann, & I am looking for birth records of my Great Grandmother, Lauretta  Altieri, who was born December 1884 in Chieti (I believe a town called Scerni or Serini).  She came to US, by the Princess Irene Ship in January 1906.  I believe also, that her father owned a vineyard in Abruzzo.

Your site is very informative & I was wondering if there is a site in the town that I need to look in.  I can't find one.

I hope that you can help me & greatly appreciate your assistance.
Many thanks,
Roseann Geiger    Redpanda62@aol.com

.......................................................................

Dear Roseann,
I’m glad you find our site informative.  My name is Dan Aspromonte; I’m in California.  I started the site over 2 years ago with Al Porreca in New Jersey.  It seems I have seen reference made to the name Altieri, but I’m not sure where or when.

Anyway, I often use the following site to get the distribution of a last name in Italy:  http://elenco.libero.it/elencotel/public/RicercaOmonimie.jsp  Simply type in Altieri where it says Cognome and click on Trova (Find).  A map will come up showing there are 1,919 listed in the phone books of Italy.  That is a   fairly large number.  For my last name of Aspromonte, there are less than 100.  In any case, they seem to be all over the map.  In the region of Abruzzo you’ll find 63  or 3.28% of those in Italy.  There are 4 provinces in Abruzzo, and most seem to be in the Province of Chieti, which is where the town of Scerni, that you referenced, is at.  Yet, there is not one in Scerni itself.  Most are in Vasto 20 and San Salvo which are larger towns near Scerni.  By the way, my father has two first cousins left in Abruzzo.  Coincidentally, one, Peppino Aspromonte, is in San Salvo, and Gina Aspromonte is in Vasto.

You can also find a description of Scerni on the abruzzo2000.com website:  http://www.abruzzo2000.com/abruzzo/chieti/scerni.htm  Pierangela Badia is the one who runs that site and the abruzzoheritage.com website.  Pierangela is an expert genealogist specializing in Abruzzo, and she is fluent in English.  I’ve used her services and she has been instrumental in helping us with our website.  I highly recommend you get a quote from her to do some services for you.  It will save you a lot of time and get you much further than you could ever get on your own.

You asked whether or not Scerni has it’s own website.  The town government has one:  http://www.comunediscerni.com/  Yet, it’s all in Italian.

Well, I hope this info is helpful.   I wish you all the best of the luck.
Dan & Al

I love this website. My father grew up in Torricella Peligna, Vincenzo Cesarone.  I've been there several times as a little girl. My brother and I plan to visit again this November. I can't wait. The town is so beautiful.  This website has so much good information. It will certainly help when we make the trip this fall. Thank-you for taking the time to put it together. All the pictures and the sites remind me of the summers I came to visit my Nonna (Palmina Antrilli Cesarone) and my Nonno (Aurelio Cesarone) and my many wonderful memories.

Deepest thanks,

I absolutely love your site, it has a lot of great material and is very useful.  I have been researching Torricella Peligna,  because I believe that it is my family's ancestral home.  From what I can determine, my great-great grandfather, Antonio Piccone, came to the US from Torricella Peligna in the late 1890's.  I would like to find out more about the area  and my family.  Any help that you can give would be great.   I have been to Italy several times and have lived in Venice for a short while, however I have never been near Torricella Peligna.  Your pictures and the pictures of the Adriatic coast, make me want to visit soon.

Greetings to all those who know this site and to all Torricellans in the World.

Many thanks to those who created the site and who, day by day, add news and documents about Torricella to it with such passion.

I am Elio Porreca, I am 36 years old and I live in Torricella with my wife Maria (from Casoli) and my 2 year old daughter Giulia.

A few days ago I met Dan Aspromonte in Torricella and he told me how the site had been born.

I am really pleased to know that there are so many people spread throughout the world, who originally came from Torricella, and who feel a link to their origins and to our village.

Since April 2005 I am the deputy Mayor and and the councilmember responsible for the town’s cultural affairs …. I am willing to help everyone with getting news and documentation about Torricella.

I would like to keep you all up to date with what the Town Council manages to do in the next 5 years.

For now I can tell you that:

-          we have named our beautiful Pine Forest after Sig. Antonio Porreca, who planned it in the 1920’s (soon we shall put up a name plate to his memory)

-          on 5th August 2005 we named the Town Library after John Fante.

I am a fan of J. Fante… I have read many of his books... he is one of those people who have made the name of Torricella known throughout the world… I would love to receive more information about him…

Greetings to everyone

I am so excited to have found this website thanks to a cousin of mine Robert Piccone.  My maternal grandparents are from the village ( Rosa D'Ulisse born 1892 and Vincenzo (Jimmy) Piccirelli born 1886 ). I plan on visiting in March of 2006 with my mother who has never been there and is very excited to see the town where her parents and sister were born.

Thanks again for a great website!

What a wonderful idea!  It is truly is a small world.  Both our parents (Gentile & Piccone and D'Ambrosio & Piccone) were born and raised in this beautiful village.

Are there any torricellani in California or even near San Jose??
Cordiali saluti,

As the first American born of western European immigrants, I grew up with the belief that "some memories of the heart are TOO special to be allowed to fade into the Ravages of Time"...this wonderful site is living proof of that statement. The archival photographs of time periods experienced by the generations of families that lived here, and those who made the tearful decision to leave this lovely place to start a new life in a new country can rejoice at this magnificent effort to capture the essence of a proud and talented people. This is a site to come back to over and over and enjoy the new additions masterfully put together by caring hands and heart. BRAVO! to All of you who shared your memories here, you have left behind a legacy every participant can be proud of...and cause enjoyment even for those of us who are not Italian. ETO ZDOROWA!

PAESE ME

'Ncime a nu colle 'mabacce a sole e vende

Congratulations on a wonderful web site. Torricella Peligna is such a beautiful and magical place. I'm glad to see that you have taken the time to capture some of it's beauty and show it to the world. My mother Maria Dipaolo originates from Torricella she immigrated to Canada in the 1960's. She married my father Giovanni Racciatti and together established a new life in Canada. Throughout the years they have brought us back to their roots. Every visit to Torricella was always an amazing experience. It was always wonderful to visit with nonno, nonna, zio's Nicola, Camillo, Antonio zia's Rosa, Gabriella and the many cousins. What a neat website!

I notice that some folks named Porreca have been active in its creation. FYI, there is a Porreca family in Rochester, and I do believe they hail from Torricella Peligna, because they were close friends of my late brother-in-law Mario Santucci. I noticed also in your guestbook that someone mentioned her grandmother Piccone. There are also Piccones in Rochester, and there may be other Torricellani I'm not aware of.

Good luck with the website.

What can I say? Thank you for this wonderful website. A great great gift. It filled my heart and made me weep to see the photos of my town. I miss my Little Tower so much.
God bless you. Thanks again.

This is a wonderful site that brings to life all the places my mother talked about when she visited this town of her parents' birth. I am looking forward to coming back often.

The beginning of another great Abruzzo web site! Although my roots stem from the marriage of a gentleman from Lettopalena and a lady from Colledimacine, I feel very connected to Torricella Peligna where my brother lived for so many years of his life. Keep this web site alive, keep it
strong and keep it beautiful. Wishing you God's blessing for much success. Rita Cavicchia Arrowood

I'm glad i found your website. My great grandfather was born there, now I can learn more about it. Thanks!

My congratulations for a great enterprise.
A special bravo to Albert, Donato (Dan), Angela, Barry and all the others who I do not personally know for a website that will surely teach so many people, both in Torricella and all over the world, to be proud of their remote, ancestral village against the majestic Maiella background, and to honor the memories and traditions of their forebears.
