Torricella Peligna ricorda Porreca e Persichetti

Walter Teti - il Centro— 28 marzo 2009 - pagina 43

TORRICELLA PELIGNA.

Torricella Remembers Porreca and Persichetti

Walter Teti –Il Centro– March 28, 2009 – Page 43

TORRICELLA PELIGNA. To coincide with the inauguration of the new headquarters of the Pro Loco dedicated to the late Albert Porreca, the Italian-American who created the town’s website, www.TorricellaPeligna.com, the Torricellan community will discover another genius with roots in the town, Vincent Persichetti (1915-1987). He was an explosive musician and composer born in America with a father from Torricella. Persichetti was an exceptional pianist. He joins a circle of other noteworthy and famous individuals with Torricellan origins, including Vincenzo Bellini, John Fante and Silvio D’Amico, founder of the Academy of Dramatic Art in Rome. This small mountainous village in the Sangro-Aventino continues to amaze us having produced a prolific number of geniuses. Torricella is also the ancestral home of Rosanna Persichitti who now lives in the March region of Italy. Rosanna, a musician herself, rediscovered Vincent Persichetti and became president of a new association dedicated to this artist. The association (www.associazionevincentpersichetti.com) has opened up a center in Falconara Marittima in the Marche region; this coming summer another center will be inaugurated in Torricella Peligna, in a house in the historic center of the town. In a befitting tribute to Albert Porreca, a gentleman conferred the title of “Torricellan in the World”, the association will offer a piano and guitar concert, with an introduction to some works by Persichetti. As the president of the association states, this concert “will open the door to a more in-depth awareness of the master himself. In fact, we plan on putting on several events to spread cultural and musical interest in Vincent Persichetti, who has left us with a very vast artistic legacy.” In the evening there will be presentations by the Mayor Tiziano Teti, Pro Loco President Antonio Di Fabrizio, Coordinator Antonio Piccoli, and directly from the United States the daughter and sons of Albert Porreca, and Dan Aspromonte, one of the most active updaters of the town’s website. The concert will feature the Serpilli Duo, with Roberta Serpilli on piano and Caterina Serpilli on guitar. The program will consist of piano and guitar solos from well-known classical composers including, of course, Vincent Persichetti and his protégés. A thrilling finale is also planned with arrangements for piano and guitar covering a broad range of genres, from Spanish music to film scores.
