Paese Me was arranged in 2004 by Antonio D’Amico, Vice Director of Malga Roma the Roman Choir of the National Association of Alpine Guard.  It was performed recently in Torricella.  Despite his surname, Antonio D’Amico is not Abruzzan, but Sicilian.  Nicola Di Pietrantonio, family nickname “chiss de la Lama” (ancestors from Lama dei Peligni), whose father is Fallascosan and mother Roman, is a member of the Choir.  His grandfather, “Nicolino” the blacksmith, worked for years in Torricella.

PAESE MÉ       (My Village -Torricella)

‘Ncime a nu colle, ‘mbacce a sole e vende,

O paese, o casa me!

‘Gni casarelle guarde a la mundagne,

‘gni casarelle guarde a la marine;

nunc’ addo` ‘vi’ la pace t’accumbagne,

lu ciele e` chiu` serene, e chiu` turchine.

Paese de l’Abruzze senza nome,

J’ nin te cagnarie manche chi Rome’

Tra lu mare e la Majelle,

O paese, o casa me!

Quanne ci stienghe poche me n’addone,

Ma da luntane ci arriva` lu core:

Prima aripenz` a Mamme, a Mamma bone,

Po` m’aricorde de lu prim` amore.

Paese de l’Abruzze senza nome,

J’ nin te cagnarie manche chi Rome’

Tra lu mare e la Majelle,

O paese, o casa me!

On top of a hill, exposed to the sun and the wind,

There is the town that saw me being born;

There are no palaces or shiny streets,

But good heart and (fresh) air abound.

Town of Abruzzo without name,

I would not exchange you even with Rome;

Between the sea and the Maiella (mountain),

Oh town, oh my home!

Every house gazes at the mountain,

every house gazes at the sea;

everywhere you go peace accompanies you,

The sky is more serene, and bluer.

Town of Abruzzo without name,

I would not exchange you even with Rome;

Between the sea and the Maiella (mountain),

Oh town, oh my home!

When I don’t stay long I miss it,

But from afar my heart is there:

First I think of Mom, my good mom,

And then I recall my first love.

Town of Abruzzo without name,

I would not exchange you even with Rome;

Between the sea and the Maiella (mountain),

Oh town, oh my home!
